Why Manifestation Feels Stuck
SPEAKER_00Today we're diving into the core principles of manifestation, gaining clarity on your desires, embodying your ideal identity, aligning your energy, taking inspired action, and learning the art of surrender. Whether you're new to manifestation or just want a refresher on the foundation, this episode will give you practical tools to start creating the life you truly want. Welcome to Roots of the Rise with me, Sarah Hope, where spiritual wisdom meets practical tools in short, bite-sized episodes. These are tasters, not deep dives, meant to spark curiosity, help you root deeply, rise freely, and remember who you truly are. For the last four or five months, I have been doing everything I can think of to manifest some big changes in my life. I have very specific goals, things like to be debt-free, to feel more spaciousness in my life, to create a better work-life balance, plus a very specific what I want my work life to look like. And I know all of the spiritual and practical things you are supposed to do to manifest. And I have been doing them consistently. And yet I feel like I am stuck. Like most of what I've been trying to manifest just has not come to fruition the way I thought it would. So as my kid would say, what's the holdup? I just, I've been in this place of really trying to figure out, you know, what's going on here? Why is it that some of what I've been trying to accomplish that has felt so aligned? I mean, my true perfect aligned vision for 2026 that I came up with, why is that not happening now? Uh, and that's gotten me thinking a lot about manifestation, about everything I've been doing. And honestly, questioning really why it isn't working, because it is a very specific kind of frustration to feel like you were doing everything right and still not getting the outcome you expected. And I have a feeling I am not the only one who has felt this way. So I figured it was time to talk about manifestation here on the podcast, because, well, frankly, I think I need these reminders just as much as anyone else. And so this is going to be the first of a two-part series. Today we're going to walk through the core principles, the things most manifestation teachers agree on. Not a deep dive, just the foundations. And then next week we'll talk about the part that I think matters just as much, maybe more, which is the limitations, the misconceptions, and what's actually happening when things don't manifest the way you planned or intended, which is what I think I probably need the reminder of most at this juncture. But for today, let's just start at the beginning. So the first step in manifestation is clarity. You have to decide what you truly want with specificity. The universe does not respond to vague desires, and your brain doesn't either. It's not enough to say, I want to be happy. What does that actually look like for you? It's not enough to say, I want abundance. Well, that's a broad term. What does that actually mean for you? You know, for one person, happiness might be life in the spotlight for being a well-known actor. For another, it might be having the kind of job you can do anywhere so that you can travel the world. For another, it might be writing a book. You know, maybe it's quitting the crazy job and getting to stay at home with your kids. I mean, it's an incredibly personal thing. And the more specific you are, the more your brain can begin organizing around that vision. And not just your brain, life, the universe, the divine. But there is a very practical side to this, which is that when you give your brain a clear target, it starts filtering, prioritizing, and problem solving in that direction, often without you even realizing it. Same goes for the divine. Regardless, you need to define the life you want in detail. You know, money, the impact this thing that you want to manifest would create on your life, what lifestyle you would have, the way it would impact your relationships, all of it. Even if your primary goal is a new job, think about what it would mean, the ripple effects of it in your relationships, your home life, your finances. The more detailed the picture, the more your brain and the divine can work with it. And you do want to think about your dream. I mean, the ideal, the actual vision of what you really, really want, as the spice girls would say. I mean, you want to stretch beyond what feels realistic. However, it's tricky because you don't want to go so far that your system rejects it completely. There's balance here. You know, you hear a lot out there about how you can manifest beyond your wildest dreams, and there is truth to that. But if you try to jump from having$10 in your bank account straight to having a million in a year, the likelihood is that your consciousness as it stands now, your nervous system as it stands now, might not be able to hold that. I think about uh Jim Carrey's story. You know, maybe you've heard this one. He wrote himself a check for$10 million in the mid-80s, but he postdated it 10 years. He gave himself 10 years to build to that possibility. And he did. He got exactly that amount for Dumb and Dumber just before the 10-year deadline. The key point here is that that was actually a realistic expectation that you could go from being broke to being a millionaire in 10 years. I think we can all wrap our heads around that. So it's not that you can't dream big. The key is expansion, gradual expansion. That's how belief builds. And just as important as what you want, it's why you want it. Because often what we think we want isn't actually the thing. It's the feeling we believe it will get us. Maybe it's not the new job. It's the sense of freedom and accomplishment it represents. Maybe it's not a new relationship, but that feeling of connection and joy with the partner you already have. And when you recognize that something shifts, you stop chasing something external and start building from what's already there. And you know what? Even just saying that out loud, I am having an aha moment. You know, one of the things I wanted to manifest this year was spaciousness. And I have it. I have manifested that. I can feel it. I mean, I'm also very acutely aware of the ways that I'm frustrated, uh, that certain things haven't manifested yet. But maybe I needed to have this spaciousness first because the vision I had was coming from a certain kind of pressure. And what this spaciousness is inviting me into is building from a place of actual expansion. I mean, the things that I want now holding this energy, they're different from the things I thought I wanted five months ago. Not all of them. Some hold true, but some have changed. You know, I want something that's sustainable, something that's truly aligned with this version of me. Uh so, huh? Okay. Uh I will contemplate that more later. Uh, but let's get let's get back to this. Okay, where was I? Okay, one simple way to work with this, to work with this idea of envisioning the life you want is through journaling. Write down what feelings you think your desire will bring, where those feelings already exist in your life, and what you can do today to experience more of them. It shifts you from lack into recognition, acknowledgement. Once you have clarity, the next step is identity. And this is where a lot of people get stuck. Because manifestation isn't just about getting something, it's about becoming someone. Instead of asking, how do I get this? you start asking, who is the person who naturally has this? So instead of how do I create a million-dollar business? you ask yourself, who is the woman who naturally leads a million-dollar business? And then you embody that identity. It's that old phrase, dress for the job you want, not the job you have. It's just another expression of that. So, you know, what decisions does that person make? How does that person think? How does that person move through the world? And then you begin practicing being that person now. And this connects to one of the most common teachings in manifestation, which is the law of attraction, the idea that like attracts like, that by focusing on what you want, maintaining a positive, high vibrational mindset, and taking aligned action, you can bring those desires into your life. You know, some people describe this as timeline collapse, the idea that multiple potential realities exist and you're shifting into the one where your desired outcome already exists. We're not going to go deep into that today. That's a conversation completely on its own. But here's how I like to think about this. It's not so much about attracting something from the outside, it's about tuning yourself to the version of you where it already exists, to the most authentic version of who you are meant to be. You're not pulling it in, you're aligning with it. And that's where the idea of frequency comes in. I know that might feel a little abstract, so let me put it in other terms. Your frequency is basically your baseline. It's your emotional state, your beliefs, the way you interpret your life. Everything you experience is a reflection of that. If your baseline is scarcity, constantly worried, stressed, feeling unworthy, you'll see the world through that lens. Small setbacks might feel like proof you can't catch a break. Not getting invited to a party might reinforce the idea that you are unlovable. Focusing on all the news that is telling you that the world is falling apart. Well, I mean, granted, it is a dumpster fire out there, but you might view that as reinforcement of the belief that you are unsafe. If your baseline is abundance, is feeling capable, resilient, expansive, worthy, then you notice opportunities even in the same situation. Other people's actions don't affect you the same way. So the question isn't, are you manifesting? The question is, what are you tuned into? What frequency? Every part of your life is something you've manifested mostly, primarily, unconsciously. So what frequency are you tuned into? Scarcity or abundance, fear or expansion, worthy, not worthy, limitation or possibility. And here's the kicker: this isn't just mental, it's physiological. Your nervous system, your habitual patterns, your emotional baseline, these create the station, so to speak, you're tuned into. So if your system is stressed, urgent, or desperate, it is almost impossible to tune into intuition or creativity or abundance or joy, even. But when your system is regulated, open, expansive, suddenly new possibilities become visible. The way you experience life changes. In other words, the version of you who is living your dream life already exists as a possibility. Your job isn't to pull it toward you, it's to shift your baseline, your frequency to meet that version of yourself where you already are. And when you do, everything else begins to fall into place. There are a couple of ways you can start playing with this. One is to envision yourself as the version of you you most want to be. And every single day ask yourself, how would that version of me think? What decisions would that version of me make today? And then you do your best to meet those answers with action. Another powerful practice is journaling, but with a little bit of a twist. You write it as if it's a year from now and everything you've been trying to manifest has already happened. You describe your life in the present tense, how it feels, how you move through your day, what you're doing, who you're interacting with. And this trains your brain and your energy to inhabit that reality now. I mean, this idea shows up everywhere in habits, in psychology, in personal growth. I just heard this quote in a masterclass with Philip Andrew. Um, his tag is Abundance Alchemist on Instagram. I love his stuff. And I think he borrowed this at least slightly from James Clear from uh Atomic Habits fame. The quote is you don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your identity. James Clare would say you fall to the level of your systems. In essence, they're both saying the same thing, though. If you still see yourself as someone who is almost there, you will continue being almost there. And this is where subconscious beliefs come in because you can visualize all day, but your subconscious beliefs dictate everything. If your internal programming is screaming, I don't deserve this, I'm bad with money, I never follow through. Success requires burnout, to name a few. That belief will win. You can think of those limiting beliefs as creating static that gets in the way of you being able to access the frequency that you want to tune into. So reprogramming those beliefs is the real key to creating many different kinds of change. I mean, not just manifesting the life you dream of. Those are the patterns that have to shift first. So the work becomes identify the belief, question it, and then replace it with something more aligned. Not just intellectually, not just one and done, but through repetition, behavior, and experience. I mean, this is where a manifestation becomes less conceptual and more embodied. Your frequency attracts your reality and your emotional state creates your frequency. For example, if you want freedom and abundance, begin by cultivating gratitude, acceptance, and a sense of expansion. You can't do that. I mean, you literally cannot do that if you are stuck in a state of dysregulation and stress, coming from a place of desperation and trying to control everything. So if you are constantly operating from stress, urgency, or desperation, it becomes very hard to access creativity, openness, or possibility. You cannot feel abundance while your body is in survival mode. That's why nervous system regulation is so important. Meditation, breath work, grounding practices, these are not optional add-ons. They are foundational. Because when your system is regulated, everything opens. I mean, your thinking expands, your intuition gets clearer, your capacity increases. And that's really what we're working toward. Capacity. Understanding this is key. Most people don't struggle to want more. They struggle to hold more, more visibility, more responsibility, more money, more love. I know it sounds crazy because most of us, of course, do want all of those things. Well, maybe not the responsibility, but you know, all of those things can feel incredibly activating to your system. There can be fear, fear of visibility, fear of judgment, fear of responsibility. I mean, you have to expand your nervous system's capacity for the wealth or the leadership, the influence, the love. And one of the ways that you can do that is to surround yourself with people who are already at the level you want to be. You know, learn from mentors. Your environment normalizes what you believe is possible. So part of manifestation is actually expanding your ability to receive what you're asking for. And this is where we ground all of this. You can't just think or feel your way into a new life. You also have to act. You can't just throw your hands up and say, the divine will make it so. You can't win the lottery if you don't buy the ticket. But the type of action matters. Aligned action feels different than forced action. It feels clear, energizing, intuitive, whereas misaligned action feels heavy, urgent, exhausting. So it's not no action or any action, it's right action. You open the door energetically and then you walk through it physically. And finally, probably the hardest part is surrender. You have to release your attachment to how it's all going to happen. Because the moment we become overly attached to a specific outcome happening in a specific way, our stress levels rise. And we've already gone over what happens when that happens. Whereas trust, real trust, opens things. Now, this doesn't mean you stop caring. It means you stop controlling. You allow for the possibility that what you're calling in might arrive in a way you didn't expect. One of my favorite quotes, I believe this is Catherine Zenkina, uh Manifestation Babe. She said, When your desire is clear and emotionally connected, you don't need to micromanage the path. You're angered in direction, not logistics. This doesn't mean detaching from what you want, but from how you're going to get what you want. So instead, you focus on cultivating the qualities you desire. If you want abundance, practice feeling abundant. That doesn't mean donating thousands of dollars if you don't have thousands of dollars to give. It can be something really simple. Maybe you buy the next person's coffee. Maybe you tip a little more than you normally would. I mean, for me, if I'm buying a$2 coffee, I'll leave a$3 tip. That's just my baseline because it's not about the amount, it's the energy behind it. Here's a simple exercise you can do: list five different ways, other than what you think is going to happen, that your goal could show up. Or you can add to your daily affirmations, show me how easy and effortless this gets to be. It's a reminder that you don't need to have it all figured out. Just stay curious and open to possibility. So if we zoom out to sum up, manifestation really comes down to a few core things: clarity, identity, alignment, action, and surrender. So here's a few questions to sit with. What do I truly want and what do I believe it will give me? Who do I need to become to live that life naturally? And where can I expand my capacity to receive more? Now, all of this sounds great in theory, but what happens when you do all of it and things still don't work? That's what we're going to talk about next week, because that's the part I've really been sitting with lately. And even though I had that great aha moment today, I know there's still a lot to unpack here. And I think we need to talk about how important it is to stop blaming yourself and judging yourself and instead start aligning your energy in a way that is actually productive and will shift things. Thanks so much for listening today. I hope this helped you understand manifestation a little better. Members, I have put a manifestation from clarity to aligned action worksheet in Patreon for you.
